We were very sad to hear that Rod Healey had passed away on Thursday from a heart attack. Not many of you would have known him but Rod worked at Swan TAFE Balga for many years as a “Mr Fixit” and he helped us out on numerous occasions when things broke down or needed repairs. Only 10 days ago he called into the office to say farewell, as he was about to embark on an exciting new venture- selling his house and moving up to Karratha with his wife to begin work as a trades lecturer. Our sympathy goes to his wife and son.

NEAS, which is the accreditation body for the AMEP Program throughout Australia, has altered the qualification requirements for lecturing staff. This will have an impact on several staff in AMES. The minimum requirement is now a degree or a teaching qualification and CELTA. Casual lecturers already studying for the Grad Dip at Edith Cowan will have to decide whether to complete it if they already hold CELTA.
